Abu Ramadan Peeved Over EC Snub

A former National Youth Organiser of the People’s National Convention (PNC) has expressed his disappointment in the Electoral Commission (EC) over its failure to serve him copies of documents regarding National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registrants. Abu Ramadan said the Commission was supposed to have served his legal team copies of the documents it submitted to the court registry out of good faith but this was disregarded. “I believe in the spirit of good faith they [EC] would have served us copies of the documents which they have not and I am surprised about that,” he said. The EC submitted five medium size jute bags filled with documents suspected to be NHIS registrants to the registry of the court per the order of the Supreme Court on June 23, 2016. Joy News' checks revealed the documents were initially taken to the Chief Justice's office where they were inspected before authorising them to be sent to the registry of the court. Clarifying the court’s earlier ruling on May 5 which ordered the EC to take immediate steps to rid the electoral roll of ghost names, names of minors and NHIS registrants, a panel made up of five Supreme Court judges warned the Commission to desist from acts that are likely to plunge the country into chaos. The court presided over by the Chief Justice, Georgina Wood ordered the EC to furnish it with the list of NHIS registrants and the process it intends to use to carry out the deletion process. Many people found this worrying as they claimed the Commission would be unable to do what the apex court has requested of it. They accused the Supreme Court of unnecessarily meddling in the affairs of the Commission. In an action that has taken many people aback, the EC submitted the documents to the court registry minutes after 2p.m on Wednesday June 29, 2016. The registry in turn requested the legal team of the plaintiffs be copied those documents. However, Mr Ramadan said the EC has refused to copy his legal team the documents it submitted to the court registry. The EC's action, he said smacks of a deliberate agenda to ambush his team in court. Nonetheless, he revealed his legal team will interrogate every action of the EC to ensure the right documents and processes are used in carrying out the work. “They should tell us how they managed to get those names first and foremost. We should have clarity on the legitimacy of those names,” he said. “It is not just about conjuring those names and putting them down on a piece of paper and present it to the court, but whether those names exist in the register and whether those names are persons who used the NHIS card and also whether that is the entirety of the names in the register are the focus,” he said. This, he said would not be done for his benefit and that of his legal team but the “court itself must also satisfy itself before the list will be approved.” The EC is expected to appear before the Supreme Court today, Thursday, June 30, 2016 over the electoral roll.

Actress Yvonne Okoro won best actress in comedy with her performance in Ghana Must Go at the second edition of the Golden Movie Awards held in Accra on Saturday night.

Veteran actors Kofi Adjorlolo and Doris Sackitey also took home best actor and best supporting actress in comedy awards for their respective roles in Ghana Must Go, which was also adjudged 2016 best comedy at the awards ceremony.

Ghana Must Go, directed by Frank Rajah, was co-produced by Yvonne Okoro and Roseline Okoro. In all, the movie bagged eleven (11) nominations for the 2016 Golden Movie Awards and won four out of the eleven nominations.

Yvonne Okoro, who attended the awards ceremony in a Stella Mccartney dress and Guisseppe Zanotti shoes, was on stage to pick her award.

President John Dramani Mahama is a tolerant man, popular highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has said.

The Aso singer, who has publicly declared his support for opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ahead of elections later in 2016 – having joined his unsuccessful campaigns to be president of Ghana in 2008 and 2012 – said these on Accra100.5FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo programme on Wednesday June 29, 2016.

“I would say he is tolerant,” Kwabena Kwabena said, when asked by host Nana Romeo of the one endearing attribute of Mr Mahama.

Further, he stated: “In terms of development he’s played his part, no one can say he’s done nothing; that would not be fair. He’s played his part.”

He was particularly grateful to President Mahama for the construction of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, saying it had considerably eased the traffic situation in the capital and hoped that governments to come and the current administration would do their best to address the “many problems” the country faces.

The musician is the poster boy of the Save-A-Life campaign, a move to raise funds for surgery for children suffering from ‘hole-in-heart’ condition.

Bad PR . . . It’s Not Good Public Image For NPP - Baako On Ken's Attack On EC Chair

Kweku Baako has condemned remarks by the Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong against the Electoral Commissioner Charlotte Osei.

Mr. Kennedy Agyapong claimed the EC Boss was appointed to her position after trading sex with some topnotch personalities in government.

He has since come under various attacks from some characters in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho called on the wife of opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Rebecca Akufo Addo to address the issue or forfeit her ambitions to become the first lady of the Republic of Ghana.

Former Central Regional Minister and Council of State member, Ama Benyiwa-Doe also described Mr. Agyapong as misogynist, stressing that he has never respected women.

Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, the senior journalist opined the remarks by Mr. Agyapong could have a collateral damage on the NPP.

Mr. Baako further bemoaned Mr. Agyapong's attack on the EC Boss, stressing that he's being unfair to Mrs. Charlotte Osei.

He noted that any reservations about the Commission's work should not be directed at the dignity of the Chairperson or personalities within the Commission.

“It’s not good PR. It’s not good public image for the party of which Kennedy Agyapong belongs. I’m telling you. He’s not going to be a singular loser in any public assessment of the matter. It has a collateral effect on the party that he belongs to," Mr. Baako noted.

To him, Kennedy Agyapong's allegations are "out of order. So, even in her case as a public officer chairing entity like the EC; I think that’s not a fair critique to make. And to say ‘fair’, I’m being charitable. I should use harsher words…”
Hypocritical NDC?

But Central Regional Secretary of the NPP, Kwamena Duncan, speaking on the same platform, slammed the NDC for acting as if they are saints.

He was particularly galled by the hypocrisy and dishonesty being exhibited by activists of the ruling party.

Warning the NDC to also openly condemn its members whose posture demean the dignity of women, he alluded to the verbal onslaught unleashed by one-time Presidential Staffer Haruna Alidu on women, the physical attack on NPP MP for Ablekuma-West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful at Odododiodio which some NDC members attempted to justify, and the social media sex video of Foreign Affairs Minister Hannah Tetteh's son, and wondered why the Minister was not condemned for allowing her son to expose the womanhood of his sex partner.

“What they could not do. What they did not do? What they did not say. What they did not condemn? Today, they’ve found their voices; hypocrisy and dishonesty!” a charged Kwamena Duncan said.

The sector Minister, Nana Oye Lithur, responding to the audit query told the PAC that her outfit has written to Mariama Yaya, former Director of the Department of Children requesting her to assist in addressing the issue. The former Director, she noted, has not responded despite several visits to her. However, Madam Mariama Yaya appearing before the PAC told the panel that she was forced out of her office by Nana Oye Lithur after she wrongfully interdicted her. She said the said amount was given to her to conduct interviews which she complied with. According to her until she gets access to her office and the documents not tampered with, she won’t be able to respond to the issue. “Hon. Chairman, I was watching television when I heard my name being mentioned and so I decided to rush here to respond to the issue. As at the time the auditors came I was still on the wrongful interdiction. So I had the privilege to be called to come there. So I went and explained to the auditors that that GH₵14,000 was for interviews I conducted”. “And we were to use part of the money to migrate to the Program Clerk and that there was supposed to be a meeting. So, I told them that all the receipts were in my cabinet but excuse me to say that the Minister had come and locked my office so I couldn’t enter the office to take the documents for them. And as I am sitting down her, my things have been packed and my things are still at the Department of Children. So, I didn’t have access to my documentation”. “If I get access to my office, and all things being equal and they didn’t temper with my things, I will definitely be able to provide the receipts”. Dumso Not Back - John Jinapo

Some parts of the country were plunged into darkness over the weekend and according to the Deputy Minister of Power, ‘it is not the return of dumsor’.

Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's morning show ‘kokrokoo’, John Jinapor said the blackout was as a result of a problem they encountered with a plant at Aboadze.
" . . the problem has been rectified and power restored in some areas . . . to be truthful, we still have challenges with some of our plants and that is why some areas are still without light but efforts are being put in place to restore power to those communities as soon as possible," he said.

Mr Jinapor also admitted that the country is having challenges with gas supply from Nigeria.

According to him, Nigeria is unable to supply the country with light crude oil but arrangements are being made to get it from another source.

‘Adldas’ May Not Be Fake Adidas After All (Photo)

So a lot of African stars and more recently Ghanaian stars have been called out on social media for wearing ‘Adldas’ branded apparels deemed as Adidas knock-offs. But an interesting stocking on the Adidas UK online store may make us rethink what we know about the ‘Adldas’ logo!

The photos for the Argyle Polka-Dot Tee on adidas.co.uk has the inscription ‘Adldas’ instead of Adidas. The Argyle Polka-Dot Tee brings a playful look to an everyday basic garment. Celebrities Disqualified From Eurostar Ghana Fashion Review

Prominent celebrities have been disqualified from the sensational Eurostar Ghana Fashion Review which seeks to reward best dressed celebrities' appearance on the red carpet.

In recent times, Eurostar Global Limousines Group has been awarding Ghanaian celebrities who appear on red carpets at major events in the country with sevaral thousands of Euros worth of shopping voucher.

Starting from Ghana Movie Awards 2015, the luxury vehicle rental company has for the past months been given  cash prizes ranging from 3000Euros shopping voucher to 1000Euros shopping voucher to celebrities who are been voted as best dressed at red carpet sessions on various events and last review was on the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards which was won by reigning artiste of the year, Elorm Adablah popularly known as E.L and actress Joselyn Dumas were awarded 3000 Euros each as best dressed male and female celebrities .

However, most stars who attended the just ended Golden Movie Awards 2016  are not eligible for the review this time around due to some technical reasons.

According head of the review panel Mr. Oscar Yao Doe who is also President & Executive Chairman Eurostar Limousine, most of the stars who attended the event refused to obey the simple rules of the fashion review.

Mr. Oscar explained that the simple rules are that all celebrities dressed very decently, be on time to be part of the official red carpet session and pose for the paparazzi on the official red carpet space that usually has a backdrop which has the logos of the organizers, the sponsors and their media partners printed on it.
"Majority of the celebrities were very late to the event and most of them failed to pose on the official red carpet space provided by the organizers. Organizers of these glamorous events go through a lot to put together such great events and provide opportunities for these celebrities to show off their fashion. So if they don't value and respect what these organizers do and decide to do their own thing, then I don't think they deserve to be rewarded", Mr.Oscar stated. 

Mr. Oscar said he and his review panel will make celebrities change their attitude towards attending red carpet events and do the right thing like how it is done the world over. In view of this, the Ghana Fashion Review panel have disclosed that only six out of the several male and female celebrities qualify for Golden Movie Awards fashion review. The 6 are Model Victoria Michaels, actress Selly Galley, TV Presenter Anita Akuffo, Stephanie Karikari, actress Moesha Bodoung and TV Presenter AJ Sarpong.

He added that the top 3 and final winner would chosen out of this 6, and this would be announced in due course.

Due to this cash given to best dressed male and female celebrities at events, Ghanaian stars appeared at the recently held Golden Movie Awards in their best outfits but most of them will be disappointed to hear that they have been disqualified but Mr. believes this is important to make our celebrities adhere to world standards.

Some of the celebrities present at the event who couldn't make it for the review includes Joselyn Dumas, Yvonne Okoro, Lydia Forson, Ama K. Abebrese, Nadia Buari, Gloria Sarfo, Deborah Vanessa, Zynell Zuh, Ahuofe Patri, Van Vicker, Kalybos, Eddie Nartey, Harold Amenya, Kofi Adjorlolo, Ekow Smith Asante, Toosweet Annan, Nikki Samonas, Luckie Lawson, Martha Ankomah, Diamond Appiah, Luckie Lawson, Caroline Sampson, Shatta Wale, Elikem Kumordzi, Becca among others.

Before the VGMAs best dressed celebrity awards, Eurostar Global Limousines Group had awarded best dressed male and female celebrities at last year’s Ghana Movie Awards. The award gave actor Harold Amenyah popularly known for “Drop That Yam” Tigo advert the opportunity to be at this year’s Cannes Film Festival held May 11 to 22 in France.

A Piece Of Peace- Peace Hyde

Hello and welcome to a Piece of Peace, your weekly dose of motivation and inspiration. This week I would like to Share with you on the topic, “Understanding Your Vision”. We are all here to serve a purpose. No matter what background, country or race, your destination on earth is not by accident. There is a clear and specific agenda for your life. That agenda was destined a long time before you were even born and it holds the key to unlocking your potential. I call this the Vision. We all have it, even the ones that everybody has written off.

 

It is God’s roadmap for our lives. Our vision is what leads us to discovering our greatness. It is a powerful tool that needs to be understood In order to identify what God has called us to do. The enemy seeks to confuse you about your vision because so long as you don’t know why you are here, you will always live a mediocre life. It is a way of keeping you imprisoned and trapped in a world where you are considered average. You are destined for greatness and remarkable impact. Sadly, not all of us realise our true potential. 

 

As a previous teacher, I have witnessed several young lives, with so much potential and promise not reach their fullest potential because they spent their time failing to understand what God has called them to do. I was once asked by my students, how do I know what I am destined to be. That is the most difficult question of all. How do you identify what your purpose is? It starts with your passion. That burning desire to achieve something no matter what it costs you. That goal or objective that makes waking up and working tirelessly worth while. You see, God gave us clues that will help us to identify that vision. Find your passion and you will find your purpose which ultimately leads to you walking on a path to achieve your vision. What will you give everything to have? Is there an end to that dream you have inside of you? And if you had to do only one thing on earth, what would you be happy doing? Ponder these questions and if there seems to be a recurring answer, then you might just be on the brink of unlocking your passion. But remember, passion without hard work does not achieve any results. There is no point having the burning desire to be the best football player in the world, but never train. No matter what you want to do, hard work is key to unlocking that potential.

 

And No matter what you do, always remember to be yourself. Because everyone else is taken.
