I Will Create More Jobs- Mahama Promises

President John Dramani Mahama says his second term of office will see what he described as "a massive investment in the real sector" of the Ghanaian economy.

He says contrary to his first term which was for the stabilization of the macroeconomic pillars of the country, his second term would be for job creation and infrastructural expansion across the country.

The President disclosed this to a cheering crowd when he commissioned the revamped Komenda Sugar Factory at a colourful ceremony held in the Central Region.

The factory which dated back to the era of the founder of modern Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah suffered some setbacks with regards to access to raw material resulting in its shutdown.

However, when he assumed office, President Mahama promised to resurrect the factory and realize the dream of Nkrumah.

The factory is expected to provide over 7, 000 direct and indirect jobs to the youths and farmers in the region.

Commenting on the extent of job creation in his second term, the first gentleman of Ghana said “millions of jobs will be created for our young people."

He invited businesses in the private sector to increase their investment in making his plans of job creation realizable in the country.

President Mahama also used the opportunity to reveal his government is ready to green the entire country in what he described to the gathering as "the green revolution in Ghana."

To do that effect, he asserted his government is "designing and preparing for establishment of 50 new farmer service centres across the country to provide subsidized fertilizers, agricultural mechanization services and improved seeds to farmers in all parts of this country."

“Indeed, the next term of office will see a massive investment in the real sector.   The second term is going to see massive investment in the real sector and that is the sector that creates jobs across the country.”

Angelina Jolie Appointed Professor At London School Of Economics

She is an Oscar-winning actress, a political campaigner and now Angelina Jolie Pitt can add academic to her list of roles.

The Hollywood star has been appointed a visiting professor at the London School of Economics (LSE), one of Britain's most prestigious universities.

She will join former foreign secretary William Hague as a lecturer at the university's Centre for Women, Peace and Security where she will help to teach students studying for a Master's degree.

Jolie Pitt, who has been a goodwill ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency and is currently one of its special envoys, has been a vocal campaigner on refugee rights, and against the female genital mutilation and the use of rape as a weapon of war.

She said: "I am very encouraged by the creation of this master's programme. I hope other academic institutions will follow this example, as it is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance women's rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict.

"I am looking forward to teaching and to learning from the students as well as to sharing my own experiences of working alongside governments and the United Nations".

Lord Hague, who worked with Jolie-Pitt on hosting a four-day summit on ending sexual violence in war in London two years ago, said he was "delighted" to be appointed.

He said: "This course will help underpin our work in preventing sexual violence in conflict, developing expertise and research to assist us in tackling the culture of impunity. I look forward to working with the LSE students and my fellow visiting professors."

The one year course will include modules on Women, Peace and Security, Gender and Militarisation and Gender and Human Rights.

Jolie-Pitt has recently been vocal about the refugee crisis, and the failure of European governments to address it.

Speaking as part of the BBC's World on the Move day of coverage of global migration issues earlier this month, the 40-year-old actress and humanitarian warned against a growing politics of fear.

“Fear of uncontrolled migration has eroded public confidence and the ability of governments and international institutions to control the situation,” she said. “It has given space to a false air of legitimacy to those who promote politics of fear and separation”.

“It has created the risk of a race to the bottom with countries competing to be the toughest in the hope of protecting themselves whatever the cost or challenge to their neighbours, and despite their international responsibilities,“ she added.

She also warned against policies of isolationism, saying that no country can seal itself from the repercussions of the migrant crisis. “If your neighbour's house is on fire you are not safe if you lock your doors. Strength lies in being unafraid,“ she said.

NPP Accuses Police Of Cover Up

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is accusing the police administration of a cover up in the investigations into the alleged discovery of arms at the party's headquarters in 2015.

The NPP's Director of Communication, Nana Akomea said it is worrying that six months after the incident, the police have still not concluded on the matter.

About 4 AK-47 rifles and 4 machetes in a sack were alleged to have been retrieved by police personnel following a tip-off by some retired military men on November 22, 2015 at exactly 1 a.m. The men claimed they were in the NPP headquarters at Asylum Down to "takeover."

According to reports, the retired soldiers who numbered up to fifty men locked the security men on duty at the party's office. They were later rounded up by the police whilst the rest fled.

Out of the alleged 50 men who stormed the NPP office, only eleven of them were arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court on November 25, 2015 and charged with unlawful entry, unlawful purpose on private premises and causing unlawful damage to the tune of GHC¢28,000.

But the NPP has insisted the state security apparatus brought in those arms to implicate the party's security personnel, the invincible forces.

Speaking to Joy News' Joseph Gakpo, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikoi South said investigations into the matter should have been what he described as an "open and shut case."

He asserted the continuing investigation by the police deepens the perception of the leadership of the party that there is an attempt to cover up.

"You have somebody who has also said that he is behind the organization. He procured the military uniforms and got the ex-service men to participate in this matter," he bemoaned.

He reiterated the position of the NPP that "the guns or ammunitions had been brought from outside and planted because the two or three security people at the head office were put in a room and locked."

However, the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Prosper Ablorh said considering the nature of the case, it is difficult for the police to quickly conclude with its investigations as the NPP wants.

He charged "investigations take a long time to carry out especially when the arms were not discovered in the possession of somebody."

Moreover, he said, the arms are neither registered nor allowed in the country. "They are also not the guns license dealers deal with," he added.

He called on the leadership of the NPP to bear with the police as they do their best to bring the perpetrators to justice

The Youth Must Develop Interest In Politics- Kwabena Kwabena

Highlife artiste Kwabena Kwabena has encouraged the youth to develop some interest in politics so they know what their taxes are being used for.

He gave the advice during an interview on ‘The Profiler’ with Kwame Owusu Danso on Hitz FM.

According to the ‘Tuamudaa’ hit singer, Ghana needs someone who can manage the affairs of the country efficiently and the youth are the only people who can ensure that.

“If I get the opportunity to talk to the people of Ghana, we need someone in our country who can steer the affairs of the tax payer very well,” he said.

He explained that politicians have convinced the people of Ghana to believe they have personally done much for the people whereas the monies are from the taxes we pay.

“Our politicians have been able to convince us that they have done this and that for us. That is why a politician would build a public toilet with the taxes of the people and name it after them, or put their picture on it,” he explained.

He went ahead to advised people get involved in finding out what their monies from their taxes are used for.

“We have all gathered money in one box and have handed it to one person to handle and we should be interested in where the money goes or what it is used for. Aren’t you interested in how that money is spent?” Kwabena Kwabena quizzed.

He also said that the electorate has the power to hold whoever leads the country responsible when things are not in the right direction.

“I expect the electorate to hold whoever is campaigns for a political party responsible, because at the end of the day the people suffer,” he said.

“I threw my weight behind [Nana] Akuffo Addo because I believe he can do something. You also have the right to throw your weight behind whoever you want to,” he added.

Krofuom Boils

Irate youth in Krofrom, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region, are said to be on the rampage.

Aside having blocked the main street which links the Suame roundabout to the Airport roundabout, they are reportedly burning tyres in the streets and chasing police officers detailed to maintain law and order in the area.

According to
HelloFM's Senior Reporter, Sampson Nyamekye, the action by the angry youth is premised on the conclusions of an autopsy report which was made public today.

They are unhappy with the report which exonerated three Police officers accused of the death of a 22-year-old man Osei Tawiah who was arrested in the area last week.
Peacefmonline.com sources say, the autopsy report conducted by pathologists at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital indicates the deceased, who the Police suspected to be a criminal, died of a congestive heart failure.
Background

22-year-old Tawiah died on Friday after some policemen who were said to be chasing suspected armed robbers on a motorbike pounced on him and mistook him to be an armed robber.

Eyewitnesses said Tawiah had left his bag behind a house and went to the public toilet only to be arrested by the police team.

The police were said to have handcuffed and beaten him up while his family members looked on since his house was close to where the incident happened.

He was said to have been pushed to the ground and crashed his head. The police claimed they were chasing two robbers on a bike.

All this was said to have happened within 30 minutes.

Confusion ensued in the area after the incident as protestors burned tyres, smashed bottles on the streets and brandished cutlasses and other weapons and threatened to revenge the death of their brother and colleague.

The three police officers were then arrested by the Kumasi Police pending the outcome of investigations and the autopsy report.

Next Time Give Me "TROTRO" To Travel-Allotey Jacobs Tells Dela Sky

The Central Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC), Allotey Jacobs says a first class boarding facility is not above his status and wants the public to back off his space.

Government in 2015 directed ministers and public officials who embark on official foreign travels on first class tickets to stop it with immediate effect insisting that economy class is the best way to go.

The directive, according to government was aimed at cutting down on foreign travels in a bid to curtail government spending.

However, Allotey Jacobs whom news of him went viral on various news platforms over an alleged arrest on a British flight in connection with a money laundering issue could not hold his peace in an interview with Citi FM’s Richard Dela Sky, when the former asked him whether he complied with the directive which is already in force when he traveled on first class.

Allotey angrily questioned the interviewer whether he wanted him to rather board Trotro to Dallas suggesting that the journalist finds him a trotro the next time he travels to the US.

Rumours went viral on social media on Sunday alleging that Mr Allotey Jacobs was busted over money laundering in Britain while transiting to United States of America.

Other reports said, the NDC bigwig who is abroad for a business transaction was escorted from the plane and questioned when his flight arrived Sunday morning over a tip-off that he was carrying too much money.

The unconfirmed reports further said Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Victor Smith had dispatched officials of the High Commission to help Chairman Allotey.

But Allotey has since denied such reports making rounds in the media, insisting he did not have issues with UK officials on his trip.

Abraham Attah Visits Nana Addo(PICTURE)

Popular Child actor Abraham Attah, today paid a courtesy call on the flag bearer of the main opposition Nana Akufo-Addo.

Together with his management team, they were at his Nima residence to invite him to his Peace campaign project on July 18.

NPP Has A Bright Future- Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo

The new crop of young Parlimentary aspirants in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) according to its flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, is a good sign that the future of the party is in “safe hands.”

According to Nana Akufo-Addo, the courage exhibited by delegates in the constituencies that have seen young candidates being elected durng the party’s Parliamentary primaries, is a clear sign that delegates of the party have faith in their abilities, and are confident that they can also deliver victory for the party in the 2016 elections.

The NPP flagbearer made this known when two of the newly elected parliamentary candidates, George Andah from the Awutu Senya West constituency, and Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei from the Akropong constituency, seperately paid courtesy calls on him on Monday, at his residence in Nima.

George Andah, who was the first to call on Akufo-Addo, was accompanied by some polling station and constituency executives; Joseph Aidoo and the other fellow aspirants in the constituency; and Moses Arhinful Acquah, the 2012 parliamentary candidate for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), who is now a member of the NPP and George Andah’s campaign for 2016.

Nana Akufo-Addo, excited by the diverse support being enjoyed by George Andah, who he said is part of a “new generation of politicians in NPP,” applauded the delegates of Awutu Senya West for “having the courage to push one of them forward,” adding that “you have faith in him, and I’m happy you have come with him.”

Akufo-Addo, Nana Dokua 29-06-15

The presence of the PPP’s 2012 parliamentary candidate, according to Akufo-Addo, is a sign that the electorate of Awutu Senya West has accepted the candidature of George Andah, and tasked the delegates to remain united and “back and support him.”

On the 2016 parliamentary election, he noted that the eyes of the nation will be on what happens in Awutu Senya West, as a member of the President’s inner circle, Madam Hannah Tetteh, Minister for Foreign Affairs, is likely to be the NDC’s candidate.

This, in the view of the NPP flagbearer, will require “hard work, vigilance and unity”, if the NPP is to wrestle the seat from the NDC.

Nana Akufo-Addo was, however, confident of victory in 2016 because the “grounds are fertile for an NPP victory both in Awutu Senya West and across the nation”, if the NPP works hard.

“Ghanaians are desperate for change. They want the NPP back in power, because they know we are the ones who can manage this country to the satisfaction of all, and rescue the nation from the despondency she has been plunged into. I am confident that if we work hard we will win, and usher into our country a new era of progress and prosperity. We can make Ghana work again,” he said.

On his part, Mr. George Andah thanked Nana Akufo-Addo for the warm reception and indicated to him that the campaign to win Awutu Senya West has already began in earnest.

“There will be no excuse for us not to win the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2016, and I can assure you, on behalf of Awutu Senya West, that we will vote massively for you. Ghanaians want a change in their circumstances and that can only be delivered with Nana Akufo-Addo in power,” he noted.

On the “threats” issued by Madam Hannah Tetteh to teach him, George Andah, a lesson in 2016, the NPP man laughed it off, stating that “if there is any lesson to be taught anyone, the electorate of Awutu Senya will rather teach Hannah Tetteh a lesson.”

Visit by Nana Dokua

Next to call on Nana Akufo-Addo was the parliamentary candidate for Akropong, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei, who was also accompanied by a large entourage made up of polling station and constituency executives, led by the Chairman of the Akropong Council of Elders, Ambassador Afari Donkor.

In his remarks to Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei, Nana Akufo-Addo encouraged her to bring onboard her fellow aspirants who were not successful in the primaries, and also, especially, to tap into the vast experience of the incumbent MP, Hon. William Ofori Boafo, whom she beat in the primaries.

According to the NPP flagbearer, “this is a new terrain for you and you will need the wealth of experience of your predecessor, in order to steer the course successfully.”

The Akropong parliamentary candidate assured Nana Akufo-Addo of an increase in his vote margin in the constituency, and, together with the polling station and constituency executives, she will mount a vigourous and sustained campaign to ensure total victory is achieved for the NPP in 2016.

CPP Present Audicted Account To The EC

The Convention People's Party(CPP) has presented its audited account to the Electoral Commission (EC), beating a May 31st deadline set by the election supervisor.

Together with other leaders of the party, the Chairman of the CPP, Prof. Edmund Delle presented  the accounts together with other documents in compliance with the Political Parties' Act.

The Election regulatory body in the past has been criticised for failing to implement the Political Parties Act to the letter. The EC said it intended to enforce the law ahead of the November 7 polls and charged the parties to comply with the law. It vowed to sanction parties who fail to meet the May 31st deadline.

In beating the deadline, Prof. Delle said Ghanaians would begin to see the CPP is no longer the small party people have been thinking about.

"We have the men to work night and day to carry out tasks that we are given within the shortest possible time," Prof. Delle told Myjoyonline.com.

The Chairman further urged Ghanaians not to compare the CPP to the smaller parties in the country as it is one of the oldest parties.

"It is a party which is vibrant and will pull surprises in the upcoming general elections," he added and insisted that they have massive support in various constituencies across the country.

Ama K. Abebrese Tells Bukum Banku The Hard Truth

Actress, Ama K Abebrese has asked the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to 'investigate' Bukom Banku for publicly fondling his wives breast in public.

Video and pictures of the boxer emerged on social media fondling the breasts of his two young wives, Monday.

Ama K. Abebrese took to her Facebook page to condemn the pictures and video.
Below is what Ama K Abebrese posted on her page:
“Why is he grabbing the breast of young girls on camera? If this is what he does publicly I don't even want to imagine what happens behind closed doors.

This is not in any way funny. Is disturbing, it's abusive and I hope the relevant authorities deal with it. The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection needs to investigate this.

It is very worrying to me the amount of comments that are blaming these young girls saying that they are 'enjoying it' and calling them all sorts of names. If these girls are underage, then what he is doing is abusive. I do not know their age but they look young.

It's important to note that whether they look like they are enjoying it or not does not stop it being abusive. Most people that are groomed from a young age and molested over a period of time do not any better. The psyche of abuse victims is rather complex.

If these girls have been abused their whole lives, they do not know any better. Some young girls and boys are sexually and emotionally abused from an early age. So by the time they grow up they think it's normal behaviour. They are victims and some do not even realise it.

Furthermore, if you think that it is OK that a grown man will engage in this sort of behaviour with young people, then you are also part of the bigger problem of our society and why so many abusers/predators continue to abuse and molest young people and get away with it”.

We Honour Our Promise And Ghana Needs Peace- Dr Bawumia

The vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has asked Muslims to pray for the country and work towards unity and peace before, during and after this year’s general election.

Dr Bawumia made the call when he joined Muslims in Cape Coast to observe the Friday Jummah prayers at the Central Mosque.

He donated Ghc 50,000.00 to the Muslim community, on behalf of Nana Akuffo Addo and the NPP, to help them fence the newly acquired cemetery to prevent encroachers.

Dr Bawumia said the gesture was in recognition of the long-standing relationship between the NPP and the Muslim communities adding; “this is our small contribution to help you have a befitting cemetery in the Central Region to bury dead relatives".

He appealed to Muslim congregants to make the goodness, fairness and peacefulness of the election their topmost priority and shun violence and chaos.

“I am here to ask you to remember to pray fervently for the nation, especially in this crucial election year. It is important that we go into this election and emerge out of it as one united nation ready to move into a new era of development and transformation. This would depend on our prayers and our commitment to the course of this nation,” he said.

Chief Mahmud Ibrahim Damdey Mazaawajey, the Regional Muslim Chief Imam, said the donation was timely and gave the assurance that the nation’s prayers and requests would be answered by Allah.

He prayed for Nana Akuffo-Addo, Dr Bawumia and the NPP and asked for Allah’s peace and protection over them.
He thanked Allah for the peace that Ghana is enjoying, especially in the light of the peaceful coexistence among Muslim and Christian communities.

Dr Bawumia was accompanied by of the National Co-ordinator of Kamarideen Nasara, Sheik T. B. Damba, and a host of other executives of the NPP from the Cape Coast North and South constituencies.

Ghanaians Have Used Me As Chewing Stick And Tooth Brush - Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has observed that people abuse him on the airwaves when they have unresolved issues with their partners.

He believes most people vent their spleen on him by raining insults on his persona daily on media discourse.

According to him, people use corruption as political propaganda without backing their claims with facts.

‘Perception can be heightened because is being discussed long in the media. And When you have a country like Ghana where everybody is free to discuss corruption, if you wake up and you are angry with your husband or wife you take it out on the President, abuse him on the radio, when you have that kind of society, there are all kinds of issues that come up,’ he stated.

He accused people of using social media to heighten people’s perception about corruption in Ghana.

‘And then we have the addition of social media, because of the anonymity, people just fix some blatant lies and put it on WhatsApp. And sometimes they are so creative and I said these people the way they are creative if they channel this creativity into lucrative thing Ghana would not be where it is.

They would create something about you and if it is not because I am myself and I know that it is not true anybody who sees it would believe it. We have all that floating in the system and all that so it heightens people’s perception about corruption. And so it is easy to say that there is more corruption in this regime than in that regime, where would comparison of between corruption take us it won’t take us anywhere,’ he emphasised.

Speaking to a gathering of Ghanaian citizens living in London, he called for proper systems to check corruption in Ghana.

The President challenged Ghanaians to be bold in naming and shaming state officials involved in corruption.

‘The important thing is to put in the systems that prevent corruption is taking place. Have the political willingness to expose it and investigate it and sanction it and I have said I am willing if any allegations are made a lot of times somebody comes and says oh this guy he is stealing and I ask him how do you know eer you put your ears on the ground.

Your ministers are all thieves, which one tell me so that I can get the person, ‘na wonte’ you don’t listen you are not listening to these things. You know, you need to deal with it in a more systematic manner and that’s why we are putting in place a legislation that protects whistle blowers, because whistle blowers are important,’ he said.

He assured that the Attorney General’s (AG) department is working assiduously on the whistle blower’s amendment bill and witness protection scheme for easy flow of information.

‘The person who sees corruption happening, you must put in the regulation that ensures that when he has blown the whistle, he is protected,’ he said.

OMG AGYA KOO MARRIES AGAIN?

Npp now ready for Manhyia North??

Executives of the New Patriotic Party have finally put plans in place to organise the long awaited parliamentary primary of the Manhyia North constituency.

Last Friday, executives in the party met the aspiring parliamentary candidates in the area to share ideas and outdoor plans for a successful election.

Disagreements over the photo album bearing a list of polling station executives who would constitute the Electoral College has made it impossible for the party to elect a parliamentary candidate for the area.

The constituency has been in and out of courts over the constituency executives.

The disagreement over the membership of the constituency executives led to the constituency being prevented from taking part in the regional and national congresses that elected the executives.

The constituency is currently the only one in the region that has not yet elected a parliamentary candidate for the party due to alleged irregularities  and the concerns raised by the candidates vying the position.

But last Fridays’ meeting between the executives and the aspirants put a closure to the grievances that has constantly stalled the electoral process.

Investigations by Peacefmonline.com unearthed that candidates vying for the parliamentary seat proposed to the executives to change the bloated register and compile a new one.

Their opinions were accepted and 3rd June, 2016 was fixed as a date for polling station elections which would be followed by another election on 5th June, 2016 to elect Electoral Area Coordinators.

Then on 9th June, 2016, Constituency Executives would be elected to complete the album to be used to elect a parliamentary candidate.

The meeting was attended by Mr. John Boadu, Acting General Secretary of the NPP; Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Ashanti Regional Chairman;  Maame Serwaa Dekye, 2nd Vice Chair; Lawyer Adom Appiah, Ashanti Regional Deputy Secretary; Akwasi Kyei, Ashanti Regional Communications Director and Dr. Kwame Amoako-Tuffour.
