Alfred Woyome Storms Citi Fm To Show Off
The unexpected happened Saturday at the studios of private radio station Citi FM when businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome, the man at the centre of the controversial GHC51 million judgement debt, stormed the station in the morning.
A visibly upset Alfred Woyome entered the studio just when panellists on Citi FM’s News Analysis Programme ‘The Big Issue’, the Executive Director of IMANI Ghana; Franklin Cudjoe, a member of the NPP and Legal Practitioner; John Kumah, and member of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Richard Amoah were sharing their varied opinions on the judgement debt and his alleged role in the saga.
According to him, he was compelled to drive to the station because he was unhappy with comments by the panelists on the matter.
He was accompanied by two of his aides, one of whom got into a heated altercation with the Producer of the Show and the Operations Manager of the station.
The aide attempted to smash the Operations Manager’s camera claiming he was taking photos of his misbehaviour.
This was about an hour after he had been interviewed live on the same show by host, Umaru Sanda Amadu, on a press conference he organised yesterday [Friday].
The police were later called in to calm tempers.
Background
Alfred Agbesi Woyome had this past week accused the Supreme Court of persecuting him following its approval for him to be orally examined by former Attorney General, and anti-corruption campaigner, Martin Amidu.
Mr. Woyome was paid GHc 51 million after he claimed that he helped Ghana to raise funds to construct stadia for purposes of hosting the 2008 African Nations Cup.
However, an Auditor General’s report released in 2010 said the amount was paid illegally him and subsequently, the Supreme Court in 2014 ordered Mr. Woyome to pay back the money after Mr. Amidu challenged the legality of the payments in court.
Some efforts by the Attorney General to retrieve the GHc51 million, including selling his property to defray the debt, proved futile.
In 2016, the AG’s department, led by the Minister for Justice, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, decided to discontinue an application to examine the one-time NDC financier orally because it was considering a possible settlement with the defendant.
But this compelled Mr. Amidu to return to court to seek his eventually successful order to examine Mr. Woyome.

Stop Your Cheap Tribal Politics-Akuffo Addo Tells Mahama
The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has bemoaned the politics of tribalism and ethnicity being waged by President John Mahama in his campaign in the North, with 16 days to the conduct of the December 7 elections.
According to Nana Akufo-Addo, for want of a campaign message to the people of the North, and his inability to defend his 8-year record in office, evidenced in the scandals that have rocked the Savannah Acceleration Development Authority (SADA), President Mahama is embarking on a divisive and tribal-based campaign.
The President, whilst campaigning in Lawra, in the Upper West Region, is reported to have stated that “I pity Northerners who are calling for change”, adding the NPP hates the people from the North, stressing that “they will use you and dump you.”
These statements, in the view of Nana Akufo-Addo, are very unfortunate and characteristic of a President who has no plans of presiding over a unified country, and is willing to say and do anything to win an election.
The NPP presidential candidate was addressing thousands of residents at Akim Oda on Saturday, November 19, 2016, on the last day of his tour of the Eastern Region, when he made this known.
“With the signs clearly spelt on the wall that he (President Mahama) has lost the Presidency, he has begun using divisive language in his campaign. He is in the North telling the people that because he is from the North, the people should vote for him. This is sad,” he said.
Nana Akufo-Addo added that it was “sad and shocking that our President will prefer not to use language that brings people together, but is rather using language that will divide us. I will not come before you and tell you to vote for me because I am from the Eastern Region or from Okyeman. I will never do that. The policies I have outlined over the course of my campaign should be the basis of your voting for me.”
The NPP leader further stressed that “if this country is to progress, we need unity amongst us. We must understand that we are first and foremost Ghanaians, and should not allow people to set tribe against tribe, all in the name of politics and elections.”
What have you done for the North?
Touching on the track record of President Mahama in the North, Nana Akufo-Addo described SADA as one of the saddest developments in the 59-year history of Ghana, especially in the time of a leader of Northern origin.
“You (President Mahama) say you are from the North, and are asking people to vote for you on that basis. However, it is under your tenure of office that the people of the North have been further impoverished. The levels of poverty in the North are truly unprecedented. Monies from SADA have been squandered, monies which were to be used to develop the North have vanished,” he said.
According to Nana Akufo-Addo, “when asked to account for the SADA monies, we are told that it was used for the rearing of guinea fowls. And when asked where the guinea fowls are, we have been told that they have flown to Burkina Faso. Is this your track record as a President from the Northern Region? It is under your tenure of office that Northerners have been robbed.”
The NPP flagbearer added that if the people of the Northern Region were truly dear to the heart of President Mahama, he would have ensured that SADA’s resources were used for their true objectives and not as a conduit for corruption and the theft of public funds.

Mrs Rebecca Akuffo Addo 'Shocks' Manhyia
Traditional leaders at the Manhyia Palace could not hide their excitement on Thursday after they were showered with what has been described as the most unprecedented gift to the Palace by the wife of the NPP Presidential Candidate, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo glittered the Palace with gifts ranging from clothes, expensive foreign wine, food items and a fat sheep when she and her entourage paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Thursday.
Carried by over 22 beautiful young ladies, Mrs. Akufo-Addo did not only spoil Chiefs and elders of the Asanteman Council, but also ensured that every division under the Kingdom had something to laugh about as custom and tradition demand.
The applause and cheers from the elders when the Chief Linguist of the King, Baffour Kantankrankyie asked Nananom to cheer on the entourage, were enough attestation of their approval of their gifts.
Some of the royals openly confessed that in their lifetime, they have never seen such a gift in the Palace before.
However, the rationale behind the beautiful gift, according to the NPP Planning Committee, was for Mrs. Akufo-Addo to show appreciation and recognition for the traditional leadership in the Asante Kingdom.
The Committee Members include Mrs. Adjei Barwuah, wife of former Ambassador to Japan, Dr. Adjei Barwuah, Mad. Ama Dokuaah, an entrepreneur and owner of Beauty Queen Hotel as well as Andy Owusu, Special Aide to the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as 'Chairman Wontumi'.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo is in the Ashanti Region for a five day tour to some selected constituencies.
She would be interacting with Queenmothers to brief them on her husband's vision and programmes for the country and to court their support ahead of the elections.

NPP Will Receive A Shocking Defeat In This Elections-John Dumelo
Actor John Dumelo has said the NPP will suffer their worst electoral defeat ever in the December polls.
According to him, majority of Ghanaians are very impressed with the performance of the Mahama-led government in the last four years and as such, are not interested in the change message of the elephant family.
Speaking at the parliamentary campaign launch of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, at Aveyime in the North Tongu constituency of the Volta region, Mr. Dumelo urged party supporters to work and prepare for another NDC victory in the December polls.
“This year will be the worst performing year for the NPP when it comes to the election. They will get the lowest vote ever because Ghana is deciding and Ghana has decided, [to retain the NDC]. So what kind of change are they talking about when we see all the projects around, and they say change is coming. That means the change is backward and we want forward change,” the movie star told the mammoth rally on Sunday.
Okudzeto Ablakwa who is seeking a second term in parliament said Voltarians will not be swayed by the unimpressive promises of the NPP, as they are already witnessing massive development under the NDC government.
He lampooned the key campaign promises of the NPP, such as, one-district-one-factory, one-village-per-dam and one million dollars for each constituency, noting that, such promises cannot match the value of investment Ghanaians have benefited in the first term of President Mahama.
“In North Tongu, we are not impressed with the NPP’s promise of one million dollar per constituency because in the road sector alone, president Mahama has invested more than 70 million dollar [in this area].
The community day SHS which we are befitting from, one is valued at Ghc 7 million that is far more than a million dollars.
If it is about the one-village-one-dam, we already have modern irrigation facilities with underground canals, so can’t leave more or less,” Mr. Ablakwa, who is also a Deputy Minister of Education, has illustrated.
He however entreated the party’s rank and files to eschew complacency and propagate the good deeds of the government so as to achieve the 97 percent votes target for him and the President in the area.
The ‘Ablakwa 2016’ campaign launch was graced by host of government functionaries and party stalwarts from the national and regional secretariats.

We Are All Not Under The Umbrella-Volta Chiefs
Claims that “all Voltarians” belong to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is factually inaccurate, a senior divisional chief of the Peki Traditional area, Togbe Agamela VI has said.
According to the chief, some members of the traditional council belong to other parties including the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing the presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, during his tour of the Volta Region, Togbe Agamela VI, said some of them are sympathizers of the NPP and declared his support for Nana Addo.
"We can only vote for Nana and the NPP based on your handiwork in this constituency. We will give you our mandate when you meet our request for this constituency. The first of which is the access road to the Peki College of Education which lies in a deplorable state as we speak.
"This election, just like friendly games, should be devoid if violence. As for Nana, we will surely give him our mandate once he carries through with our request. There is no doubt about that 'Nana beba'".
Expressing his gratitude to the chief, Akufo-Addo said the NPP’s call for change was based on the fact that the performance of the NDC government in the last eight years has been nothing but a monumental failure.
He accused President John Mahama of supervising unbridled corruption and collapsing all the social intervention programmes initiated by the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufuor administration.
“He [Mahama] has been in power for eight years, and in the era of the eight years apart from the Green Book, we don’t really know what else he is really able to do,” Akufo-Addo told the chief and his subjects.
“The time, has come for us to put people in office who are cable of ruling this country and leading effective and efficient government so that we can make progress in our country,” he added.
He reiterated his pledge to ensure rapid development of the country when voted for come December 7, urging the people to ditch the governing NDC government.

Nana Addo Slaps Chief Of Staff With His Response
The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has described as reckless, the comments made by Chief of Staff of the Mahama administration, Julius Debrah, who, whilst campaigning in the Brong Ahafo Region, urged Ghanaians to stop patronizing made-in-Ghana fruit juice beverage, Kalyppo.
According to Nana Akufo-Addo, after killing Ghanaian businesses in the last 8 years because of poor policies, the Mahama government is now actively campaigning to collapse Ghanaian businesses, which employ thousands of people across the country.
“I have heard one of Mahama’s appointees (Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah) saying that Ghanaians should no longer consume Kalyppo because it contains sugar. So after killing Ghanaian businesses, they are now campaigning to make sure that no one patronises made-in-Ghana products, and thereby collapse Ghanaian businesses? Ghanaians should not pay heed to such loose-talk from officials of the Mahama government,” he said.
Nana Akufo-Addo continued, “If, indeed, sugar was bad, why have they set up the Komenda sugar factory, a factory they have made so much noise about? To them, sugar is bad and, yet, they spent so much money on the Komenda sugar factory, which is not even working? This propaganda will not work.”
The NPP flagbearer stressed that “this year, whatever it is they say, whatever propaganda they churn out, will not work. Ghanaians are going to vote and bring into office an Akufo-Addo government, which is going to improve the wellbeing of Ghanaians. The wind of change is blowing all across Ghana, and nothing, nothing, is going to stop it from succeeding.”
Nana Akufo-Addo was addressing a mammoth night rally at Kwadaso, on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the end of day-2 of his 4 day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, when he made this known.
In view of the economic crises, widespread despondency, rising cost of living, and record levels of unemployment, amongst others, the Mahama government has plunged the nation into, the NPP flagbearer maintained that Ghanaians have one simple task ahead of them in this year’s elections.
“The task is to use our thumbs to unseat Mahama and bring in a government led by Akufo-Addo. I am here to appeal to residents of Kwadaso, Kumasi and Asanteman to throw their support behind me, like never before. I want you to vote massively for me, so we can go into Jubilee House and do a job for all Ghanaians which will create jobs, wealth and prosperity for all Ghanaians,” he added.
Nana Akufo-Addo assured the thousands and thousands gathered that he, together with the NPP, is seeking the mandate of the Ghanaian people, so as to be able to use it to implement the policies and programmes which will return Ghana onto the path of progress and prosperity.
“These policies include the revival of the National Health Insurance Scheme, the effective implementation of the Free SHS policy, the 1-District-1-Factory policy, the establishment of the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP), which will ensure that every constituency will receive the equivalent of $1million dollars every year to address developmental issues in the 275 constituencies, amongst others. I will implement all of these policies to the letter,” he assured.
The NPP flagbearer, in concluding, urged residents of Kwadaso to rally behind the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Dr. Samiu Nuamah, and vote massively for him, so the party can eclipse the 83.82% margin of victory obtained in the 2012 elections.
Nana Akufo-Addo also campaigned in the Manhyia South, Atwima Nwabiagya and Adansi Asokwa constituencies on Thursday.

Politics Has Destroyed My Sweet Relationship-Lawyer Adwoa Sarfo
The Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya Sarah Adwoa Safo has revealed that her otherwise sweet love affair with firebrand politician Kennedy Agyapong was marred by politics.
The charming lawyer who has disclosed she has two kids with the Assin North Member of Parliament described him as “a sweet father” though Hon. Ken Agyapong is thought to be an unruly character by a section of the public.
Speaking to Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr FM Wednesday, Hon. Adwoa Safo also dismissed claims that Hon. Agyepong is a violent person, who subjected her to abuse while they were together, adding that the only reason their relationship could not survive was the fact that they had competing goals and visions.
“You’ve gone into relationships and you realize things don’t work out, so its with everybody. I’just like anybody…you go into something and probably as time goes on you don’t see it the way you want it, probably you’d want to move on.
“Sometimes you need to share in your dreams, once we are both politicians we have very competing interests and competing goals and vision. At some point it might not be on the same level and you might want to push it on your own. Politics probably pushed us apart. Of cause politics does a lot of things and so sometimes you just make the right decision then you move on” Adwoa Safo said.

Ayariga 'Unfit' To Contest As A President
Ashanti Regional chairman of the National Peace Council has described the disqualified flagbearer of the All People Congress (APC) as someone who is ‘unfit’ to be President of the country.
The Peace Council said Ayariga has not conducted himself with decorum and hence should not be entertained as someone who has the potential to lead the country.
“He used unprintable words on the EC Boss and that is something which is not palatable, when I heard it, I felt ashamed…he is unworthy of occupying the highest office of the land…,” the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Peace Council, Prof. Stephen Asiamah told Adom News.
Prof Asiamah was reacting to insults rained on the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei by Hassan Ayariga after the announcement of his disqualification from the presidential race.
Hassan Ayariga speaking on radio after the announcement described the EC Boss as ‘stupid’ and ‘foolish’ for disqualifying him.
"Madam Charlotte Osei herself is not qualified to be an EC leader. She's stupid and foolish," Mr Hassan Ayariga said in an on Accra-based Class FM minutes after Mrs Osei announced his disqualification.
"I am telling you she is not qualified to be an electoral commissioner. Somebody who has contested in an election in the past, you are telling me you don't know his identity. Are you normal? And for that reason you disqualify that person? Does it make sense to you? That you tell me that Hassan Ayariga, you don't know his identity? Who the f*** are you?" an obviously angry Mr Ayariga said, adding: "This is the joke of the century”.
These words, the Peace Council chair said is enough to guarantee the disqualification of the man who broke away from the People’s National Convention (PNC) to form the APC.
Prof. Asiamah further urged the EC to use better ways to interpret the electoral laws so that the application of the law does not create problems.
He also entreated politicians to work with the EC in an atmosphere of unity and trust.

Nana Addo Is The Only Saviour Ghana Needs Now-Diana Asamoah
Popular Gospel act, Evangelist Diana Asamoah has described the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo as the Nehemiah to rebuild Ghana from its current state of disrepair.
Diana is out with another latest campaign song titled "Yen Nhwe Mano Nse3". It therefore, comes as no surprise as she was granted the platform at the launch of the NPP’s manifesto at the Trade Fair Site in Accra on October 9.
In the song she compared Ghana to Jerusalem and Nehemiah to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the presidential candidate for the NPP. She went further to state that just as Nehemiah did not sit idle and watch the destruction of the city, Nana would also not watch for Ghana to be ruined.
She implored all and sundry to help propagate the gospel of change and work towards the rebuilding of Ghana by supporting and voting for the NPP. “I hope this message becomes good enough to convince electorates of their choice of candidate. God bless Ghana. God bless Nana. Change is coming.”

Akua Donkor,Hassan Ayariga Are Both Not Serious And Big Time Jokers-Nana Aba Anamoah
It was always going to be a free-flowing discussion on politics when two broadcast journalists, Afia Pokuaa and Nana Aba Anamoah are involved.
They have made a small reputation for throwing punches and running unabashed commentary on subjects which their other two guest - Malik Daabu and Raymond Acquah would pull the brakes on.
Barely 10 minutes into the discussion Monday morning on Joy FM, Nana Aba went in for the jugular - 'Let's face it. Akua Donkor is a joker,' she said, endorsing the Electoral Commission's controversial decision to disqualify the 51-year old farmer and politician from contesting the presidential election.
"Tell me the one thing this woman has said anywhere that qualifies her to be in the Flagstaff House," she threw a challenge.
Afia Pokua took this question as a Xavi-inspired pass to join the discussion and added to the list, throwing in Akwasi Addai, popularly known as 'Odike,' the presidential candidate for the UPP. He broke away from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and formed the United Front Party (UFP) and then broke away from the UFP to form the United Progressive Party (UPP).
The EC appears not too sure so it broke away from him, rejecting his nomination to join a potentially 17-lane race which effectively is a two-horse race between NDC and NPP.
Kofi Apaloo, the IPP candidate, a man who wants to create a cashless society if elected President, went to the EC with bag loads of cash as payment for GHC50,000 filing fees.
Ghana Freedom Party's presidential candidate is also not free to contest the 2016 presidential elections.
The three are part of 12 presidential candidates who have been disqualified for failing to meet some legal requirements.
Their ambition is a blithe on the seriousness of the process to choose a president and are an expensive waste of everybody's time, the host of Burning Issues Afia Pokua 'burnt' the disqualified candidates.
"Honestly, we love their humour but....", Nana Aba summed up the entertainment value of the gang of three 'jokers'.
The massive sweep depopulated an otherwise crowded political space to four 'lucky' candidates - the incumbent President John Mahama, the perennial challenger, the NPP's Nana Akufo-Addo, the CPP's Ivor Greenstreet and Jacob Osei Yeboah aka JOY, an independent candidate.
The Progressive People's Party (PPP), a party whose slogan is 'Awake,' woke up to find their candidate may not contest an election they have worked so hard to be visible.
It is not fair, they said. "Nduom has a case, Nana Konadu has a case", the two bundles of candor mounted an attack against the EC no sooner after they had mounted a defence against the EC.
Afia Pokuaa and Nana Aba agreed that the campaign needed "somebody worth our time, our ears our votes" and proceeded to salvage the presidential ambition of Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom and Nana Konadu who were also disqualified.
